Addiction is a complex but treatable condition. Treatment varies depending on the type of drug involved, amount used, and duration of the addiction, medical complications and social need of the individual. The goal of treatment is to enable an individual to achieve lasting abstinence, but the immediate goals are to reduce substance abuse, improve the patient's ability to function, and reduce the medical and social complications of substance abuse and their addiction.
